It was the the Scrutiny meeting tonight at the City Hall. We think we can say that the EDTT committee will make a strong recommendation that the Evesham Road Link is not in the next Local Plan. Our representatives and Local councillors delivered strong and informed cases against a Link Road.
The draft of the Local Plan is due out in January/Febrauary of next year and we shall see it then. We feel as reassured as we dare that the Evesham Road Link will not be included, but need to wait for final confirmation in the Local Plan itself.
Thanks to all of you who wrote to councillors. The letters were all forwarded on to members of the Scrutiny Committee. And thanks to those of you who were able to come to the meeting tonight. Special thanks to those who spoke so effectively on our behalf.
16/10/19 Scrutiny Commission meeting - our chance to put our case to the council in more detail.
Finally we have movement! The council’s Economic Development, Transport and Tourism Scrutiny Commission has invited us to address them about what they are calling the Evesham link road (a new road across the North end of Aylestone Meadows across the River Soar).
The meeting is at 5.30pm on Weds 16th Oct 2019 in City Hall, 115 Charles Street, Leicester, LE1 1FZ. We and other organisations are being given 30 mins to talk to the commission about the Evesham link road. They are not a decision making body (the City Executive are) but this commission is able to make recommendations to the City Executive about both transport and the local plan. We will be asking:
- that the possibility of this road (the red line on the map as the council sees it) is removed from the local plan for once and for all.
- that the city council makes a commitment not to build this road now or in the next 30 years.
It would be great if you could write to the councillors on the commission beforehand and come to the meeting to show them that we want them to take this seriously. Please go to our get involved page for more info.
